A Little Perspective

Perspective is a tricky thing that can cause lots of heated discussions! My perspective vs your perspective…even what I write here comes from a place of perspective, doesn’t it? Although so much of what I say is how I see it or perceive it, I promise to do my best to present Biblical truth! So often our perspective of how we should live or what we should look like in living a “good life” or being “Christian” comes from our surroundings, expectations or being a product of the environment we grew up in. What really needs to happen in our life is what’s discussed in Galatians 5…the whole chapter (read later!). Without the help of the Holy Spirit, we find ourselves operating according to a perspective of how life is supposed to be...kind of like applying a standard or a law that keeps us in line. We tend to act like the church in Galatia in how they went back to being focused on circumcision or uncircumcision to express a “Christian life” instead of focusing on a relationship with Jesus. Paul basically said to them, concerning yourself with this doesn’t matter; your perspective is off! When we attempt to do things on our own without the help of the Holy Spirit, we alienate ourselves from exactly why Jesus set us free, from having to do life own our own! Paul even told the church, “you alienate yourself from Christ because you make it about your effort” (vs4 - Brandon’s paraphrase) So if life is not about our effort according to our perspective and it’s about a Spirit led life, how do we know if we are living that way? It’s actually pretty simple. We can always assess our actions by the outcome. The "hindsight is 20/20" thing is true! But that doesn't mean you won't ever know what's right until after the, you learn, and before long you see the outcome before the action! This perspective (wisdom) is from God! The kind of “wisdom that is pure; also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. Full of mercy and good fruit, shows no favoritism and is always sincere” (James 3:17 NLT). Spirit led living produces “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (vs22 NLT). So now we know what it looks like but how do we do this? We move to a place of transformation through the power of perspective. Living with the perspective that I can do this on my own without the Holy Spirit is possible, but not recommended! When we change our perspective to living life with the Holy Spirit, this opens the door for the life God intended for us to live! "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2) Our perspective establishes our position and opens up our possibilities! Shift your perspective from "what can I do" to "Lord, what would you have me do?”

I have a question for you about getting to heaven…Are you working hard? Are you giving it all you’ve got? Did you make sure you didn’t mess up today? …do you think getting into heaven is based on what

This is possibly one of those questions in life that we ask of ourselves, as much as, we hear others ask us. This question is one of those that when others ask it, the answer is simple. We give them o
